What is Lifestyle?

As of 2010, the New World College Dictionary defines lifestyle as “a pattern of thinking and action that represents a person’s attitude toward life.” In its broadest sense, the term refers to patterns of behavior, activities, interests, and consumption. These may include views of politics, religion, health, and relationships.

Despite its ambiguous definition, the term has influenced important sociopolitical conversations. Lifestyle is a way of living that helps people succeed in school, at work, and in social gatherings. People with healthy lifestyles take time to enjoy fictional realities, participate in organized religion, and exercise regularly.

Lifestyles are formed in a particular cultural, economic, or religious context. Some of the more common elements of lifestyle are shared traditions, expectations of behavior, and patterns of entertainment. Moreover, lifestyles are based on an individual’s preferences, outlooks, and personal worth.
