It’s always an amazing feeling being part of something BIG, something fantastic, and something that has been long awaited for. Many are saying, “Oh this is just a movie based on a game.” But if you’re a fan of something, especially for over a decade, then you know that feeling I’m talking about. Sure it wasn’t the premier, and there wasn’t a red carpet, but stepping into the Real D Theater was an experience I won’t soon forget! Seeing the faces of so many famous people, and knowing that Ratchet and Clank will leave an impression was unforgettable!
Once I got over the initial shock of how amazing it was to be in the same building as the many historical screenings that took place there, I was able to snap some pictures and head on back to the screening room. The screening room, where the magic truly happens…
There’s just something about two unlikely people (or Lombax and Robot) joining forces to save the entire Galaxy. This is the main plot of the movie, but there is so much more that goes into it. Bonds being formed, trust, friendships, understanding, growing, etc. – it’s all in Ratchet and Clank. I seriously mean this movie has it all. If you want to laugh, you’ll laugh, want to shed a tear here and there? Yep, it’s got that too.
This way of storytelling has always compelled me to stay alert and pay attention. When a movie has more to offer than just beating the bad guy, it’s the kind of movie you want to take your kids to. Ratchet and Clank did this for me.
There is just something about knowing that the underdogs will be the heroes of the story. If you look at the rest of the Galactic Rangers, they’re all much bigger than Ratchet and exorbitantly bigger than Clank for sure! There are definitely lessons to be learned and Captain Qwark isn’t quick to do so and just sends Ratchet on his way without giving him a chance….until….
Now I’m not saying that this movie is all about the feels, oh no, no, no, no! I mean it definitely has them, and that’s awesome, but this film is action-packed! Yes, it’s for the whole family, but I was at the edge of my seat and with my mouth gaping wide for more than half the movie! Don’t worry parents, there’s no cussing and no blood, but there sure is a lot of “asteroid kickin’!”
The overall theme of Ratchet and Clank is, “You don’t have to do big things to be a hero, you just have to do the right things.” While the movie is based on the beloved game, this origins story is completely new, especially to the gaming world. My family has been a long time fan of Ratchet and Clank and the movie just made everything much clearer where the game is concerned. Of course we’ll get to see many of the characters we know and love, but we’ll be meeting some new ones as well. The Galactic Rangers are all there and the enemies, well you’ll just have to go see for yourselves!
As the mission takes wild and woolly turns, Ratchet and Clank will learn about heroism, friendship, and the importance of discovering one’s own identity. They will surprise everyone – even themselves – by proving they are capable, and will become lifelong friends ready to go wherever adventure takes them.
The moment Ratchet Saves Clank from a fiery crash and offers to repair him, you know right away that theirs is a friendship that is meant to last a lifetime. During our interview with James Arnold Taylor, he said, “Ratchet learns to be himself and accept who he is.” That is the true essence of this film. It is finding who you are and accepting it. It’s about listening to yourself and opening your heart to others.
Clank is classified as a “defect” because he was so much smaller than the other robots, and he also thinks for himself. He knew he had to get away from the bad guys – Chairman Drek – and needed to warn the planet of its impending destruction!
Cora is your typical “shoot now, ask questions later” type of girl. She’s a real tough girl who wants to get the job done, no matter what. Working with Ratchet and Clank she learns that she should, in fact, ask questions.
Captain Qwark is not exactly a has been, but he does need to learn that not every hero can be as big as him. All heroes come in different shapes and sizes. Once he sees Ratchet kicking some major Asteroids he is awed and changes his views. He grows into a better hero because of Ratchet and Clank.
Meet the Bad Guys!
Drek has a mission and that mission is to destroy and reshape the entire Galaxy into his own vision. He is the epitome of evil, without warning he destroys an entire planet! Don’t fret though, this is where our Galactic Rangers come in!
Drek’s lead BOT is a force to be reckoned with. He’s mean, he’s ugly and he’s meant to crush anything and everything that comes in his path. He leads an entire army of “non-defective” angry Bots and he’s set his eyes on Ratchet, Clank, and the Galactic Rangers.
Nefarious and his sidekick Lawrence (not pictured) are in cohorts with Drek but Nefarious has a plan of his own! Now the Galactic Rangers have to plans to foil and save the galaxy at the same time?! Can they do it or will the Sheepinator be used?!
Will the Galactic Rangers embrace Ratchet and Clank into their fold for the sake of the Galaxy? Head over to theaters tomorrow to find out! Make sure to bring the kids, and pick up the game too!
