I’ve partnered with Beck Chrysler near Gainesville to bring you some amazing music for your just as amazing road trips!
Anyone with a family can tell you, that long car trips can be a pain. Frequent stops make the trip take exponentially longer than they should, cabin fever starts to set in about 3 hours into a 12-hour drive and all of a sudden your kids can’t keep their hands to themselves, and no one can agree what should go on the radio. Now I’m an 80’s baby, who grew up in the 90’s with kids born after the millennium, and while I appreciate the current music scene, there’s a part of me that never really left the 80’s and 90’s.
My husband and I have extremely diverse musical tastes. Everything from rock to country and my husband even like traditional Celtic music (Ewww!), but my children never took to 90’s music the way I did. They told me 90’s music sounded corny and old, so I tried to put them onto some of my favorite 80’s standards and they fell in love. Here are a few of their favorites in no particular order
1. Land Down Under by Men At Work
2. 867-5309 (Jenny) by Tommy Tutone
3. My Sharona by The Knack
4. Nothing But a Good Time by Poison
5. Living on a Prayer by Bon Jovi
6. Don’t Stop Believin’ by Journey
7. Total Eclipse of the Heart by Bonnie Tyler
8. Red Red Wine by UB40
9. Take on Me by Aha
10. Hungry like the Wolf by Duran Duran
I think what they like the most about these tracks is that they’re all extremely catchy with a great sing along choruses. My 8-year-old randomly walks around singing “867-5309” over and over again to the point where I kind of regret letting him hear it in the first place. That’s how I’ve built the car mixes we listen to. It’s all stuff we can sing along too, and for the most part, it’s up tempo. Although once the trips have been going for a while if you throw on a bunch of slow love songs, your kids will be out like a light in no time.
