iPhone Apps Kiddies Will Love
When the iPhone was first developed, it was made with the needs of adults and teens first and foremost in the minds of the designers. Children were not often on the mind of those looking to create an innovative communication device that would revolutionize the way people could interact with the rest of the world. Over time however, as the iPhone grew in popularity, app developers started to see the potential of this untapped market and began to create an innovative range of apps specifically designed for a younger audience. Here is a list of several of my favorite apps that kids (and parents too!) will love.
This one sort of reminds me of Pokemon a bit. Youngsters will collect, trade, breed, and raise frogs in fully customizable environments. The game can be played while linked to friends either online or locally and there are over 60 fantastic achievements for children to unlock as they reach important milestone in the life of their precious amphibian friends. I’ve seen kids go at this game for hours at a time.
Cut the Rope
Help our friend Om Nom get the candy! Kids will have to solve a number of increasingly complex puzzles by utilizing a range of tools like pulleys and catapults to help Om Now catch stars and then finally be able to reach that candy at last! Trust me on this one, I got my nephew playing this and several hours later, when I needed to make a call, he was still playing it. You might wonder if you’ll ever see your phone again!
A game for the preschoolers in your life, based on the kid-hit television show on PBS of the same name. This app features games within games that utilize the characters from the show to teach rhyming, spelling, writing, and reading in fun and creative ways. My niece apparently learned how to read her first word with this app. That’s a win in my book!
American Museum of Natural History: Dinosaurs
This is for the paleontologist in your life who thinks he knows everything there is to know about dinosaurs. Bet you he doesn’t! This app features more than 800 different dinosaur photos and if the child clicks on any one of the photos they will be treated with a bevy of information related to their creature of choice. In fact, I bet you’ll have as much fun learning about the beasts of the past as your child does!
The iPhone was designed with teens and adults in mind, but don’t discredit the utility of the iPhone for the little ones! The apps above are some of the ones I’ve had success with among my nieces and nephews. Just remember, you might be too successful! If you need to use the phone then you might just have to wrestle it from your children so you can make that important call to your boss or whomever. And be aware, letting little ones play with you iPhone increases the risk of an accident happening to your phone so I suggest covering your phone with Protect Your Bubble iPhone 5s insurance!
