I am so much more than a Blogger
This October I will be running this blog for six years. It started out as a hobby. Actually it started out as a place for me to share my recipes from my online bakery.
How It All Started
After I moved to Ohio, I started making many Italian pastries that just couldn’t be found here. Friends started ordering from me and many encouraged to open a bakery. I decided to go the extra mile and I opened an online bakery. As every business should have, I had a website where I shared recipes and news updates on the bakery.
For an entire year I found great success – however it started taking a toll on me. I was up at all times of the night prepping for orders. That was when I decided to close down, but I didn’t want to lose my recipes and readers. I changed names, and Adventures of the Mommy Homemaker was born.
Now I must admit that I started out just talking about food, family traditions, and reviewing simple and basic products that I had around the house. This included anything from the “best” pasta to use to how to properly remove a stain. I then started adding more recipes like Calamari Friti or Homemade Meat Sauce using fresh tomatoes.
As my blog grew, I started opening up about my infertility and PCOS journey. This grew a bigger crowd and more attention. The next thing I knew brands were reaching out to me to ask me to help spread their message. I was and am honored to continue to do so. Even recently I had huge sites like Mom It Forward ask me to write about how Infertility Impacts a Family. I’ve been a Staff Writer for Mom Blog Society too.
Throughout the years I’ve learned so much and am extremely grateful for every single opportunity I’ve received.
Where Am I Now?
Right now I’m exactly where I want to be. I am making an income not only from my blog, but from writing. I am able to use my passion and education to do something that benefits my entire family. I’m getting a chance to travel, take my children to places we couldn’t go to otherwise, my bills are paid, I’ve bought a car, and I get to be home and help my mother.
I am so much more than a blogger. I am a blogger, a writer, photographer, a cook, a baker, a party planner, a wife, a mother, an accountant, a bill payer, an employer, accountant, auditor, secretary, and a caretaker. I do it all. I love doing it all even though it can become quite frustrating.
I don’t CHOOSE to live with my Mother, she needs me to live with her. She almost completely blind, and is prone to having mini strokes and tachycardia.
She may not be fully dependent on me, but she does depend on me more than she’d like to. We split the bills, she helps me design my dishes for photographing, gives me her old recipes so I can update them and share them with all of you. Do we sometimes wish we each had more privacy? Absolutely!
What Are My Plans?
I plan on continuing to grow, and grow, and grow. I love what I do! I love the freedom I have working from home, I love the perks, I even love the deadlines. At the end of the day I do what I love. I get to work in the field that allowed me to grow and I get to take care of the people I love.
We are working on rebuilding our credit so that we can buy a bigger house – preferably one where my mom can still have her own space, but is close enough for me to keep an eye on.
I plan on expanding my media company – Blogger to Brand Media even further than it is right now and help even more bloggers grow. My plans are forever growing.
I’m a Girl of Many Hats
I love the different roles I play, I love being more than a blogger. Being my own boss, helping other bloggers grown and learn their potential, furthering a brand’s reach, are all things that I know I am good at.
Taking care of my family and my mother is also something that I am good at. I do it all, and I’m okay with that.
So the next time someone says to me, “All you do is sit in front of the computer all day!” I can proudly respond with “Yes, and you can learn more about what I do at this link!”
