In the United States there’s been a war raging for quite some time. Social Media has been set on fire by this three way debate over the three best selling trucks in the United States. The debate has been going on for decades. In 2017 combined truck sales for the Detroit Three amounted to more that 2.3 Million units, that’s one pickup for every man woman and child in both Idaho and Wyoming.
For 2019 Dodge has rearmed itself with a brand new weapon in the ongoing conflict the all new 1500 series pickup with massive towing capacity, a new plush cabin, and a smoothly sublime ride.
One of the first things Dodge did was to lose weight. This started with a ladder frame which through the wider use of high strength steel and an aluminum cross member clocks in at about 100lbs lighter that previous models. Dodge also raked the windshield back a few degrees and implemented a venture roof design for smoother airflow over the bed. The sides of the bed are also 1.5 inches taller to reduce the parachute effect.
The most popular engine for the 2019 Ram 1500 is the 5.7litre iron block V8. This massive engine pumps out 395 horsepower and 410 foot lbs of torque. With the lighter truck body and frame there’s power a plenty. The ZF 8 speed automatic transmission delivers precise shifts and is rarely caught off guard.
Not only has the interior been greatly refined, but its also more functional that ever. There are USB ports a plenty with 5 type A and 4 of the newer type C. Also available is the new Ramcharger which allows for wireless charging of devices. The cabin has been stretched by four inches allowing for more leg room all around and in some trims the rear seats recline as well allowing for maximum comfort.
In the great truck war the new 2019 Dodge Ram 1500 is a bull’s eye. With its focus on new technology, increased aerodynamics, and fuel efficiency the three way race for pickup supremacy may have become a lot more one sided.
