It’s a great way to reconnect with your family after a busy year spent working, going to school or getting caught up in whatever life has thrown your way. The Loneliest Road
This 3200 mile odyssey will take you from sea to shining sea. Running from Ocean City, Maryland to San Francisco, California along US-50, Time magazine once called this 11 state excursion “The Backbone of America. Along the road you’ll travel through three different mountain ranges, the Sierra Nevada’s, the Rockies, and the Appalachians. You’ll also pass through 4 state capitals and Washington D.C. as well as tourist destinations like Lake Tahoe, Nevada and St. Louis, Missouri. For the outdoorsman, you’ll also pass through the Arches national park in Utah, and the Great Basin National Park in Nevada.
Historic Route 66
Even before Route 66 was paved in 1926 it was still a major part of the American Landscape. This corridor was one of the first transcontinental highways and earned itself the nickname “The Main Street of America” because it wound through so many small towns across the Midwest and Southwest and was dotted by hundreds of cafe’s motels, gas stations, and tourist attractions. Major Cites that fall along the route include Chicago Illinois, St. Louis Missouri, Branson Missouri, Tulsa Oklahoma, Oklahoma City Oklahoma, Amarillo Texas, Albuquerque New Mexico, Santa Fe New Mexico, Flagstaff Arizona, Sedona Arizona, Los Angeles California and Santa Monica California. Some points of interest include Grant Park in Chicago, The 66 Drive-in in Carthage Missouri, the Cadillac Ranch in Amarillo Texas, the Grand Canyon in Arizona, and the World Famous Santa Monica Pier.
US 1 Down the East Coast
Whether you go north to south or vice versa, Us -1 offers an amazing experience. In Maine, you travel from Fort Kent Maine along the Canadian Border and down to the Atlantic Coast. You’ll travel through some of Maine’s most historic cities like Portland before skirting the corner of New Hampshire and getting into some real New England staples like Narragansett Bay, Boston, Providence Rhode island. The Long Island Sound, and New Haven Connecticut. From there this road travels down through New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia and Washington D.C meaning you can stop and see any and all of the history of the revolutionary states. US 1 meanders through the central hill country of both the Carolinas before hitting the coastline in Georgia. Form there it hugs the Atlantic coast of Florida all the way to Key- West. Truly a breathtaking drive.
