A Review of the Current State of Knowledge on the Topic of Lifestyle

A lifestyle is a set of choices and habits that reflect an individual’s attitudes, values and worldview. It includes patterns of daily interactions, consumption and entertainment, and often involves the way an individual dresses or decorates their home. In terms of health, a healthy lifestyle is generally characterized by eating a balanced diet, exercising regularly and abstaining from smoking and excessive alcohol use.

This article provides tips on how to live a healthy lifestyle, including recommendations on the things people should do (the “shoulds”) and the things they shouldn’t do (the “don’ts”). It also discusses some of the challenges that may be encountered in trying to achieve a healthy lifestyle.

Many different definitions and interpretations of the term “lifestyle” are given in the literature, ranging from sociological approaches, such as Thorstein Veblen’s theory of conspicuous consumption, to psychological ones such as Alfred Adler’s concept of personality style. The latter identifies the framework of guiding principles and rules that individuals develop during their early years, which end up defining their system of judgement which will guide them throughout their lives. Later, in the work of Milton Rokeach and Arnold Mitchell, the concept of lifestyle was linked to the concept of value systems, which defines a person’s hierarchy of values, allowing for a profile to be drawn up.

The main objective of this paper is to review the current state of knowledge on the topic of lifestyle and identify potential new directions for research. This review is carried out by analyzing the major theories currently available and proposing a model that allows us to better understand the complexity of this phenomenon.

In the literature on lifestyle, there is an exclusive tendency to identify risk behaviours. However, a more inclusive approach is needed. This could include an analysis of antecedent factors and the definition of the lifestyle itself, which would allow for the development of a more systematic approach to research and to the design of lifestyle interventions.

Stress is an important factor to consider when developing a healthy lifestyle. While some stress is natural, excessive amounts can cause physical and mental problems. To help reduce stress, it is recommended to do regular physical activity, as it stimulates the release of mood-enhancing hormones, such as endorphins. It is also beneficial to eat a balanced diet, as well as socialise with friends and family.

This can be achieved by watching a comedy, reading comics or simply talking with friends. Stress relief can also be achieved through meditation, prayer or other spiritual practices. It is recommended to talk with a therapist or other mental health professional, as they can provide you with tools and techniques for dealing with stress.
