Cleaning your home is a normal, yet important part of home maintenance. In general, a surface-level cleaning is typically going to be enough to get the job done. That isn’t always the case though. There are signs that indicate that it’s time to do a deep clean of your home in order to keep it in good condition.
You’re Getting Sick More Often
As unpleasant as it can be, getting sick is a natural part of life. That said, if you notice yourself getting sick with increasing frequency, there may be something more to it. Pay attention to the circumstances surrounding your illnesses. If you notice that you feel sick or have allergies more frequently while you’re at home, your house may be the culprit. Carpets trap allergens and while vacuuming can help, it can also bring them to the surface where you’re more likely to come into contact with them. Dirty air ducts can have a similar effect. If you find yourself getting sick more often when you’re at home, it’s probably time for a deep cleaning.
There Are Bad Smells
You’re probably used to how your home smells, so you may not notice bad odors right away. If you spend much time away from the house though, you’ll more easily notice funky smells when you return. If you have pets in your home, your carpets can require cleaning to remove odors. Dirty drains, garbage cans, and refrigerators can all be sources of unpleasant smells in your home. Bad smells are a sure sign that your home needs to be cleaned more thoroughly.
Stained Surfaces
Your nose isn’t the only sense that can tell you your home needs a deep cleaning. Over time you may notice stains developing on various surfaces in your home. Your floors, walls, and countertops are among the list of susceptible surfaces. Removing stains from your walls and other surfaces can be tough, especially if they’ve been there for a while. It’s important to address them though. The longer they’re allowed to stay, the worse it will get.
It is occasionally necessary to do a deep clean of your home, even if you ordinarily clean it on a regular basis. If you’re getting sick more often, notice bad smells, or see stained surfaces, those are pretty solid indicators of a need to do a deeper, more thorough cleaning of your home. Deep cleaning your home all at one time can be overwhelming, so try doing a room each day until you have it done.
