Growing up in New Jersey, our summers were filled with Taylor Ham (or pork roll *eye-roll*), egg, and cheese sandwiches on our way down the shore almost every single weekend — sometimes even on weekdays! We adored going to the beach, taking in the sun, the saltwater, the boardwalks, and so much more.
We’re going to take a virtual trip down my Jersey Shore memories. One of our favorite places to go was down by Hazlet, NJ. A sleepy town with so much to give in the surrounding areas.
On days when the tide was low, we would literally just float near the shoreline. My sister and I would even bring our boogie boards, because what teen in the 90’s didn’t have a boogie board? But here’s the thing, after the beach, we’d head to the amusement park and the water park, and oh boy, just wait and see what’s coming!
Keansburg Amusement Park
The Keansburg Amusement Park is your traditional old-school adventure. It had arcades, a boardwalk with carnival games, funnel cake, zeppoles, and so much more. It was always packed no matter what day of the week we went. My sources tell me that it’s still like that and even more fun for the whole family!
Runaway Rapids Water Park
So on days when you’ve had your fill of boardwalk games and food, you could literally walk 10 feet and you’re at the Runaway Rapids Water Park. I have to admit, it was fairly new when the waterpark opened in 1996. We had gone every summer since until I moved to Ohio. It was fun and inexpensive for a family of 4 and some friends too!
