Just recently I found myself talking with my dad about what foods he misses from Venezuela. In Jersey, there’s quite a few different Latin restaurants he can visit and purchase exactly what he wants. However, we know that nothing beats home made, fresh, and scrumptious. So I scoured the internet looking for delicious Thanksgiving sides with a latin twist. I’m hoping to surprise my dad with some of the flavors he misses. So on El Dia De Accion de Gracias, he can be pleasantly surprised.
Here are some of the recipes I found that sound and look delectable!
A Dish of Daily Life – Lemony Kale Quinoa Salad
My dad loves bitter greens, throw in some lemon and he’ll be in heaven! This could be a wonderful change to my usual broccoli rabe and lemon side.
Farm Fresh Feasts – Fall Color Vegetable Appetizers
Ok so I still threw in some Mediterranean dishes – hey it has garbanzo beans, and I get to use my sriracha sauce!
Tastes Better From Scratch – Acini de Pepe Fruit Salad
And some Italian pasta too…but it looks so good!
Laura’s Little House Tips – Ginger Chili Lime Roasted Sweet Potatoes
My dad loves, and I mean LOVES sweet potatoes. Lime is used in many Latin American dishes, so I think this is a win for him and me!
Farm Fresh Feasts – Cranberry Salsa Refried Bean Nachos
I don’t know why I never thought about making this, but it’s definitely going to be part of my appetizers this year!
Strength and Sunshine – Artichoke Basil Lentils
In many European and Latin American cultures, lentils are considered to bring good luck. I think that this will be one dish that will be gobbled up this year!
Living Sweet Moments – Colombian Coconut Rice Arroz Con Coco
There was this bakery near my house in NJ that had the best Arroz Con Coco. It was their signature rice pudding, definitely on the sweeter side. When I saw that this version was both sweet and savory, I had to add it to my menu
Space Ships and Laser Beams – Fall Acorn Pudding
Okay, there’s nothing really Latino about this recipe, but it’s fun and sweet, and the kids will love it!
Another Cent Saved – Best Salsa Recipe
This salsa has all of my favorite Latino flavors in it. It’s the perfect appetizer to lay out during the game and before dinner.
Living Sweet Moments – Potatoes Au Gratin with a Creamy Jalapeno Sauce
Well this recipe is definitely going to be for my husband. He just adores Potatoes Au Gratin, add in the Jalapeno Sauce and he’ll be on his knees giving Thanks!
