Many of us live in places where it’s probably snowing already. That means that your car needs protection. We need to get it ready for the upcoming winter months.
So how do we do that?
Easy!
Just follow the steps below! Some of these were provided by the folks at Mopar located at the Lakeland Chrysler Dealer.
Preparing Your Vehicle For the Winter Months
Change or Replace Fluids
Get an oil change. Getting rid of that old oil out and putting in some fresh oil will save you tons during the cold months. Besides, with all the summer traveling, I am sure your car needs an oil change now.
Check all fluids in the car to ensure none are low or getting low. Refill whichever fluids need it.
Tire and Car Care
Check tire pressure. Make sure you tires are in good shape. Be sure to read your owner’s manual to get the tire pressure to where they need to be
**Note** each car’s tires are different and during the winter, you may lose a little bit of pressure due to weather.**
Wash your car, inside and out. That way, when the colder weather hits, your car will be nice and clean for you. Nothing feels better than a nice clean car! Don’t forget to add protective wax. Snow and ice can really cause damage like paint peeling, scratches, etc.
Giving your tires a good wash will also help prevent more grime, salt, snow, and ice from causing damage. You don’t want an excessive build up
Make sure your spare tire is in good condition. You never know when you will need that spare tire, so make sure it has air in it and is in good condition. If it needs replaced visit your local dealer for a replacement spare tire.
Make sure your carjack is up to par and is working correctly. Many people just throw a carjack in their car without ever checking to make sure it works. Check on it.
Emergency Car Kit
Make sure your emergency car kit is made and in your car! Everyone needs one of these. If anything needs replaced, be sure to do so. Some things you may consider adding are:
- Flashlights
- Blankets
- Batteries
- Water
- Bandaids
- Towels
- Gauze
- Snacks
- Tools, etc.
So what are you waiting for? Prep your car for the winter months and spring cleaning will be easier on you and your vehicle!
