In 2016, spa treatments are being taken to new levels of perfection – and customers are lining up. Treatments that were revolutionary just a few years ago are now widely available and more affordable than ever. This helped push the spa industry past the $15 billion dollar mark in 2014, and that number is expected to keep growing.
We all can benefit from treating ourselves with a spa treatment. But if you’re anything like me, you’ll want to know all about the latest and greatest options before booking an appointment.
Wellness in the Workplace
Workplace wellness has become a hot topic that companies are investing in heavily. New research has definitively shown that keeping employees healthy and happy is good for a company’s bottom line. To make sure employees get the R&R they need, some businesses are bringing spa treatments into the office.
With today’s high-end, portable spa equipment, it’s easy to bring the spa to virtually any location. Massages are by far one of the most popular office treatments. However, instead of a simple chair setup that’s been used in the past, full tables are now being used to expand the massage possibilities. Companies are also hosting corporate spa parties for clients and employees that offer a whole lineup of treatments.
If you’re just too busy to make the trip to the spa, you can get together with a few co-workers and bring the spa to you!
Spa Trends and Personalization
This trend began in 2014 and has become a standard at many spas. There’s no longer a one-size-fits-all mentality. Customers want personalized treatments, and 77% of spas now offer customization upon request. When you set up your appointment ask the receptionist how each treatment can be personalized so that you can get exactly what you need.
Personalization is taken to the extreme with multi-masking. The different zones of your face have different needs (oily, dry, large pores, redness, etc.). So, why settle for a single-purpose facial? Multi-masking is a treatment that combines a variety of masks, which are applied to different areas of the face. Halotherapy & All Other Salt Therapies
Salt is quite possibly the most popular ingredient in spas today. It’s being used in a variety of scrubs and body masks, but the trendiest salty spa treatment is halotherapy. For this treatment you sit in a room full of pure salt where a “halogenator” circulates atomized salt particles in the air.
Halotherapy is believed to aid in cell repair and help the body get rid of mucus and inflammation. Salt is also known to be antiviral, antibacterial and antifungal. These properties also make salt a top pick for body cleansing and massage products.
Carbonated Face Masks
We’re used to choosing between still and carbonated water, but now you can do the same with your face masks. Adding carbonation to face masks is a trend that comes from Korea, the mecca for skin care innovation. The carbonation helps provide a deep clean and plumps the skin. The bubbling sensation can be felt, which adds a massage-like feeling to the treatment.
Electrospinning Hyaluronic Acid
An electrospun machine may be the next piece of equipment every spa has to have. It took a decade to create the electrospun machine, which is able to spin pure hyaluronic acid into patches that are applied to the skin. The patches contain up to 40 times more hyaluronic acid than at-home options, giving them the ability to immediately plump up the skin and soften lines.
Crushed Pearl Massage
Watch out salt. There’s another exfoliate that gently massages away rough spots. Crushed freshwater pearls are being added to essential oils and creams to create a luxurious exfoliator for the hands, feet and back. As you can imagine, using pearls for you massage isn’t cheap, but supposedly the experience is worth it if you’re looking to treat yourself.
By now you’re probably imagining your much-needed me time at the spa. We all know beauty isn’t skin deep, but it sure is nice to have a little professional skin perfecting help every now and then.
