The more you use your car and the longer your trips are, the more wear and tear your car experiences. It is vital to your vehicle’s health and longevity that proper car maintenance is done. As a matter of fact there a few things you can do on a monthly basis that will cost pennies to nothing to perform.
Check the Oil, Wiper blades and Wiper Fluid
It only takes a few minutes and can be done while getting gas. Pop the hood and check if you need to top off the oil. Remember to get the oil changed every 3000 to 5000 miles. Check the windshield wipers. Look for any cracks, rips or missing chunks. If they look good, you can wipe down the blades with a wet paper towel to remove any grime build up. After checking the windshield wipers, top off the wiper fluid.
Check the Power Steering Fluid
This is the fluid that people never seem to think about. If you notice your steering wheel feeling a little heavy to turn, just stop and check the power steering fluid. Most cars also make a noise if this fluid is low. Without power steering fluid, the steering wheel will take everything you have to turn the wheel. You have to actually put your body weight behind it and that is not something you can do while driving down the road at a fast speed.
Check the Transmission Fluid
Low fluid can cause problems with shifting and can lead to transmission failure. It is important to always pay attention to how your car is shifting gears. If you feel it slipping check the transmission fluid.
Check the Brake Fluid
Brake fluid helps the brakes work. Brake fluid provides hydraulic power to the brakes, allowing them to squeeze with enough force to stop the vehicle.
