Quitting Smoking And On A Diet?

Yup, I’m doing exactly what everyone swears not to ever do! I’m quitting smoking while on Nutrisystem! Am I crazy? Probably. But, why not? I can totally do this! If I can stick to a diet for this long, then surely I should be able to quit smoking too! My asthma has already gotten so much better from the weight loss alone. I can only imagine how fantabulously I’ll be able to breathe then! I think that since I have become so focused on my health all around, that quitting to smoke should be my next adventure.

Every week I’ve been losing between 1-3lbs. That’s an accomplishment alone! My goal is to cut 1-3 cigarettes out a day. This won’t be my first time trying to quit. As a matter of fact, I just had an awful fight with the patch. We’re not going to go there, I promise. I guess I need to start using those portable handheld vaporizers. I see them around lately and heard it’s a good way to start on the path of quitting. (Go to this site to check out the most advanced vaporizer.) My problem with smoking is that I smoke when I’m bored. I can easily go through a pack of smokes in a day. That’s gross. I’m going to pretend that the pack is a bag of chips. Nutrisystem taught me that I can have my favorite foods with moderation.

If I stick with that mind frame, then surely I’ll be successful. I don’t enjoy smoking, I’m actually beginning to hate it. Now is the time for me to do this. I’m getting healthier with my weight. I’m finding the person I knew was always hidden. I want to perfect that person. I want to add the finishing touches to me! I want to be a thinner, healthier, and smoke free person I know I can be!


Nutrisystem Results:

I’ve been moving (literally moving, with a U-haul truck and all) and thank goodness my meals just need to be heated! It’s amazing what lifting heavy boxes and a balanced diet can do for one! This week I actually lost 4.4lbs! Woot! Woot! I was ecstatic to step on the scale this weekend and see the extra weight come off. I even had a chance to go to clothes shopping this weekend and I bought two new outfits in a size XL!! I haven’t seen my clothes in an extra large in over thirteen years! It’s always been 2x or 3x. Someone told me over the weekend, “Really you lost 40lbs? Where?” I can understand the question. Being only 4’11, the weight doesn’t distribute or redistribute proportionately as if I was, say 5’5. I was easily able to show them my success though by my weekly charts and trying on my old clothes compared to my new clothes. The look on their face was priceless and they kept asking about my secret! “It’s no secret, it’s Nutrisystem!” I happily replied.

Since we’ve been moving for the past two weeks, I haven’t had time to go sign up at our local gym. Today and tomorrow should definitely be the end of it and I will be going to Anytime Fitness. Seeing the extra two pounds come off was an amazing feeling. I haven’t felt like that since the very beginning of this journey, when the weight was just melting off! I want to tone up and get rid of my love handles! When you’re on a diet, yes you lose weight but you don’t look tight and tucked over night. You have to work at it, and that’s what I’m going to do.

Total Weight Loss: 47.7lbs

Total Inches Lost: 7.5

Next week, I’m going to post a progression of pictures to show the weight loss. I am so exited and nervous at the same time.

    Good luck with both journey’s, dropping pounds and cigarettes. I’m on a weight reduction journey also, although not using any system. We’ll see how it works. :) Love that you are also giving up cigarettes. My husband died of non-smoke related cancer (he never smoked). It breaks my heart to see a friend who beat cancer TWICE continue to smoke. Maybe you should take up quilting for when you’re bored to replace the cigarettes. At least your hands would be busy, you could spend cigarette money on fabric. :)

    Changing the lifestyle around smoking is important to success for most people. It is not just about willpower. The willpower to abandoned takes a regarding effort and is hard to maintain. I really wish you luck and success.

    Good luck on your journey! I am working on the weight loss, and I quit smoking almost 5 years ago. It was difficult, but it is worth it. I still have moments where I get angry and want to smoke, but the idea of starting at Day #1 again is enough to keep me away from it. You can do it!
