I’ve partnered with Bosak Honda AMC to bring you these 5 steps to keeping your car’s exterior looking brand new! The shiny paint job and new car smell are so enticing, and of course you want to keep it looking new for as long as possible. I mean who doesn’t want their car to look like it did the first day you drove it off your dealer’s lot! You’re probably finding yourself washing it, waxing it, and protecting it quite often.
However, did you know that frequent washing may be just the thing that is causing your paint job to age prematurely? If you aren’t following the proper steps, your hard work may be having just the opposite effect of what you intended.
Wash By Hand
While drive through washes can be convenient, the best (and safest) wash for your paint job will always be by hand.
Use Two Buckets
You should have one bucket filled with soapy water to wash your car, and another filled with clean water to rinse it. It’s important to keep them separate so the clean water doesn’t become contaminated by all of the dirt and grime you wash away.
Don’t Wash In the Sun
While a hot sunny day can seem ideal for car washing, the cool weather against the hot surface of the car actually causes the pain to crack and the finish to wear away quicker!
Always use a cotton or terry cloth to dry your vehicle, after washing. Drying will give you the best finished look, by helping to avoid streaking on the surface.
Polish and Wax
Polishing your vehicle regularly will help smooth the surface. Waxing it will maintain a nice finish to help protect your paint job from the elements. Both waxing and polishing are important when it comes to keep your paint job looking fresh and new.
With just a little TLC, you can keep your car looking like new for a very long time!
