Anyone who has taken a road trip knows that snacks are just a part of the experience. However, the mess left behind when you get home is often more than you bargained for. Finishing off your vacation by cleaning up the car is often the last thing on your mind once you get home. Here are five ways to help keep your car clean during your next road trip.
1. Garbage Bags
Having a dedicated bag for garbage is essential to keep a clean car during a road trip. If you have passengers in more than one row, multiple bags to catch wrappers and trash will save it from scattering as it’s being passed around. If you have young children, just be sure the bag is out of their reach as it could be a suffocation hazard.
2. Car Floor Mats
Most cars come with floor mats that can be easily removed and shaken out to remove dirt and food particles. But we all know that built-in floor mats can be tough to clean, especially once the grime gets ground in. All-weather car floor mats protect your car interior against everything from mud to spilled drinks. They are also much easier to vacuum/hose off and change out if necessary.
3. Individualize Snacks Beforehand
Digging through a bag for a handful of trail mix or other snack is an easy way to make your road trip turn into a major headache when it’s time to clean. Taking the time to create some baggies of different snacks will help keep the mess dialed down. If you have children, this is also a great way to keep things fair so everyone is happy.
4. Baby Wipes
Fairly inexpensive and incredibly useful, baby wipes are a key item for road trip preparedness. Not only can they quickly wipe up spills, but are also great for wiping off sticky hands after snacking to prevent food particles from making their way into other areas of your car. Most baby wipes are also gentle enough to be used on most of your car’s surfaces without risking damage.
5. Seat Covers
If messes seem inevitable, investing in seat covers for your car might be your best bet. At the end of your trip, you’ll be able to quickly shake off or wash the covers rather than having to vacuum every crevice of your seats.
With some simple pre-planning, you can spend your next road trip worrying less about the mess left behind. Knowing you won’t spend your evening cleaning up after your drive will make the journey that much more enjoyable!
