While most of us in the U.S. are spending most days shoveling snow out of our driveways, we are thinking about warmer days and days spent in our gardens and backyards. Well, at least I am. It’s definitely time to think about organizing our backyards. Let’s take a look at these 5 tips to organizing your backyard.
If you don’t have a shed or outdoor plastic storage bins, now is the time to think about getting one or many. They come in all different shapes and sizes to suit your outdoor decor. You can get storage benches, deck boxes, round bins, to sheds both small and large, there is an outdoor storage solution to suit every need and every size backyard.
Once all the things lying around your yard have been picked up, cleaned up, and stored it will start to feel like a completely different place.
The first thing you should do is pick up and gather everything that is lying around the yard. Use your newly acquired storage to neatly store them out of sight. If you’re anal retentive about this things like this, like I am – categorize them such as – toys, garden equipment, miscellaneous others etc.
Now is also a good time to decide what you want to keep, donate, or discard. Look at what is left and think about in which bin you want to store them in.
After you have decided what to keep, donate, or throw away, you should take out the pruners, lawn mower and some garden shears. You should definitely restore it to last Summer’s glory! Over grown weeds, shrubs and grass, because we all know that a garden that has not been maintained is a major turn off.
If you plan on growing flowers, plants, and veggies, then you’ll need to have a hose. The hose, is going to need a place to live – no not on your floor. Not only does it become a safety hazard but it’s also an eye sore. Invest in a hose reel and make sure your hose is neatly gathered in one convenient location. You can even use an oversized coat hook in a polished or matte steel and it can be really pretty and tidy.
By now your backyard is probably ready and looking beautiful. Take some extra steps to turn it into an outdoor oasis – a place where you want to go and relax, entertain, actually spend time in. Add some lighting, maybe a water fountain of some sort, and some pretty, sturdy, weather resistant and comfortable outdoor furniture.
Following these tips will help you get back into the swing of Spring and Summer. Spending some extra time fixing up the outside will inspire you to enjoy the warm weather ahead. You can even make it fun and have the children help you clean it up and organize.
