I happen to know that weather down in Texas is starting to warm up a whole lot faster than it is here in the Midwest. Honestly, I’m a bit jealous – okay a lot jealous! I’ve been speaking with the folks down there and specifically some of your local car dealerships. Who better to discuss cars and fuel savings with than experts right? I thought so. We came up with five tips to getting better gas mileage while you’re traveling around Arlington, TX. These folks are smart and they really know what they’re talking about so read on and pay close attention!
CHECK YOUR TIRES
When your tires aren’t properly inflated, it can cause the engine to work harder. That makes your fuel gauge go to empty in the blink of an eye. Checking the pressure is important especially in the spring since the temperature is changing all the time.
GET A TUNE-UP
Regular tune-ups, maintenance and having clean air filters will help you burn less gas, pollute less and prevent car trouble down the line. A proper tune-up can boost gas mileage by 4 percent. So not only is it helpful to you, but it is helpful to the environment. Heading to your local dealership like Hiley Mazda of Arlington can help ease the process.
COOL DOWN WITHOUT THE AIR ON
Resist the urge to turn on the air while driving on the street. Roll down the window or open the sunroof to help cool down so you aren’t using the gas running your air conditioner. It will save you some gas and help you keep your cool at the same time. Some say that this isn’t true, but a recent study (yes I totally did this) shows that it, in fact, decreases your MPHs.
WATCH YOUR GAS CAP
A small percentage of cars have loose, damaged or missing gas caps. People don’t know that it can cause gas to vaporize which means you are losing money. Replace it if necessary.
LIGHTEN THE LOAD
A heavy car uses more gas because it takes more to get it moving. Removing unnecessary things (not important emergency items such as a spare tire, flares, and a first-aid kit) from the cabin and the trunk will keep you moving the speed you want to go without wasting some of the precious liquid gold.
