It’s a universal ideal to want the best for your kids, and sometimes that means getting creative with whatever healthy habit you teach them. For instance, if you want your family to spend more time outside, you may want to switch up your usual hiking spot, or you may want to include a hiking destination in addition to your next vacation. Whatever the reason, here are five perfect outdoor destinations for families.
Judge C.R. Magney State Park – Grand Marais, MN
In between a few other gorgeous parks in NE Minnesota, this one includes fishing in addition to hiking and camping. There are beautiful waterfalls accessible by hikes as well. The string of parks along the Lake Superior coast offer views one can only see here.
Twanoh State Park – Belfair, Washington
At the lesser known Twanoh State Park, one can also find both a majestic and historical setting. Additionally, there is a beach near the end of a hiking trail, making for a high reward for the family that bears the adventure. Experience both forest and the coast at this park.
Manchester State Park – Manchester, CA
Tucked away beyond many steep roads and dense forest is a pristine and unique beach on the California Coast. There are plenty of family activities from snorkeling and fishing to hiking and surfing. This beach is on unique terrain with protected wildlife as well, so get off the beaten path and check out this unique campsite.
Valley of Fire State Park – Las Vegas, Nevada
Outside of the city that never sleeps is an equally as vibrant outdoor scene at the Valley of Fire State Park. Not only is there biking, hiking, and camping, but there are also cultural and historical sites to be seen as well. If you’re up for the challenge or live in Nevada, check out their Passport program that qualifies one to receive a free year-round pass after gaining 15 stamps — it sounds like a good excuse for a road trip!
The DePauw Nature Park – Greencastle, Indiana
The DePauw Nature Park is a gem among park jewels. It has over 9 miles of well-maintained trails with modern facilities, and the local university offers a professionally-run naturalist program. This program educates the public on the range of flora and fauna in the park, making it an excellent choice for field trips, in which the park also participates. The DePauw Nature Park has something to offer everyone in the family.
